Our first year…

 In Blog

Cheers…Ashlin Farm Barns has officially been open for you to enjoy for 1 year today. A lot has happened in our first year and we would love to take you through our journey so far.

Growing Family

For starters, our family of barns has grown, alongside our family, with the welcoming of our son, baby Pickering, Reuben. We started out with 2 barns open; Holly Tree and Red Oak, which opened in August 2017 and have increased our barns from 2 to 4 with the addition of Field Maple and Wild Cherry in March 2018. Every barn has its own identity with unique and individual décor, thanks to Magari Interior Designs. Holly Tree has a contemporary, modern, boutique cottage theme and Red Oak has a natural woodland theme with rustic décor. As for our already existing holiday cottages, Field Maple is designed in a sumptuous luxe style and Wild Cherry with boho chic décor.

Celebrations and Special Occasions

We love to celebrate special occasions here at Ashlin Farm Barns, and we have hosted our fair share throughout the year. Our barns have seen friends and family gather for reunions, hen parties, weddings, anniversaries, baby showers (including our very own baby shower for baby Pickering, Reuben), birthdays, Easter, Christmas and New Year.

We have had the pleasure of welcoming guests of all generations for every milestone birthday. Not only have we welcomed you, your families and friends to celebrate together, but we have also welcomed your pets, with Holly Tree and Field Maple being the perfect pet friendly accommodation.

Record Breaking Weather

Being open for a year has meant that we have enjoyed the spring, summer, autumn and winter. In only one year, we have seen the beauty of the barns in all four seasons. We never expected it, but this year saw us experiencing extreme hot weather, hot enough to compete against 1976 where the UK enjoyed 18 days of consistent 28C + temperatures, according to weather records. Considering that many guests enjoy Ashlin Farm Barns for their summer holidays, the weather has been perfect for our guests to enjoy.

That wasn’t the only extreme weather that we experienced. As well as hot temperatures, we also welcomed snow. The ‘beast from the east’ met storm Emma creating the worst weather in years for the UK. Our barns looked majestic and guests enjoyed making snowmen and playing in the snow.

Our Growing Gardens

Lincolnshire is a rural, farming county and the outdoor spaces and wildlife are very important to us. We continue to develop our gardens to make them as welcoming as possible for your visits and despite the extreme heat of this summer they are looking colourful and attractive. We pick our own flowers to fill vases to welcome you. Our area has some wonderful walks to follow and is very popular with cyclists enjoying the great outdoors. We will be working with Nettleham Woodland Trust to develop nature trails for everyone to enjoy in the beautiful Nature Reserve, just a few minutes’ walk from the barns. Find out more about the growth of our gardens today.

Competition Winners

Throughout the year we have welcomed a handful of lucky competition winners that have enjoyed our luxury barns, on us or at an extreme discount…

£500 Discount Giveaway: Sharing is caring…so we encouraged you to like our page and share our post as well as tagging the friends that you would bring along with you. This was a huge success and was very much enjoyed by our lucky competition winner.

Free Summer Holiday: This was our biggest giveaway yet. For this, we gifted a 4-night break for 10 people mid-week during the summer holidays. We encouraged you to like our page and like and share our post, not forgetting to tag your friends. Much to our delight, the competition winners enjoyed their summer holiday in summer conditions, with the sun out for the majority of their stay in July.

Our competitions are simple to enter into, so be sure to enter. Follow us on social media as we wouldn’t want you to miss out on our exclusive giveaways and discounts in the future.

As well as hosting our own prize draws, we are always looking for opportunities to work with fellow competition holders. That is why we donated a 4-night mid-week stay for 10 people for the best dressed category at Market Rasen’s Ladies Day. We will be giving away another prize at the October Winter Ladies Day at Market Rasen Races. Find out more today and stay posted to discover the prize we will be giving away.

We have had the pleasure of hosting 2 corporate stays throughout the year. Ashlin Farm Barns provides the perfect facilities for a working stay. Find out more about thinking outside the box when it comes to staying in Lincolnshire and looking for corporate accommodation today.

Lights, Camera, Action! We know that we have a photogenic venue and so did Wyndhams when they asked Ashlin Farm Barns to be showcased on their website for Cottages.com, having been chosen from over 20,000 properties for their promotional and marketing campaign. We were honoured and of course said yes.

As well as external photoshoots, we have also enjoyed a photoshoot by Phil Crow to showcase our newest barns. Here is a snapshot of our favourite photos…

Now that we have looked back, we think it is important to look forward to ensure that we provide you with the best experience possible.

The future…

Our guests are important to us and we love to hear what you think and we assure you that we listen to your feedback, taking on board your suggestions and constantly seek to improve your experience. This is why you will find a comments card in the barn to share your views with us. Be sure to fill this out to let us know what you think. We are in the process of developing shaded areas for the summer weather and will be providing loungers for guests to relax on during their stay, making the most of being outdoors.

Upon your arrival, you will find leaflets of local attractions, handpicked by the Pickering family. In the future, we are looking to promote a wider range of tourist attractions, with exclusive discounts, to ensure that you get the best out of the area whilst staying with us.

We love cheese and know that many of our guests do too. That is why we have started working with The Cheese Society in Lincoln. Whether you enjoy your cheese inside our bespoke barns or outside in your private garden area, there is one thing for sure, you will love the flavour and variety of our local cheeses.

We are also excited to have already started working with award-winning The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company to provide you with our own branded range, ensuring that you enjoy the best of the local tea and coffee whilst staying with us.

We are all about building relationships with our guests and suppliers, the majority of which are in Lincolnshire. We particularly love produce from local providers; Jenny’s Jams, Fred W Read and Sons Ltd, Tom Woods, Pipers Crisps, The Cheese Society, Lymn Bank, Cote Hill Cheese, Poacher Cheese, Lincolnshire Pin Gin, Tickle Belly bakery, Peak Stop Farm, Roly’s Fudge Lincoln, Redhill Farm and Lincolnshire honey. We love Lincolnshire and like to show off the produce that it has to offer with Lincolnshire being renowned for its produce. That is why we will be looking to work with more local producers to showcase their products for our guests to enjoy. If you are a local producer and think that your product would work well in our barns, get in touch and we would love to see what you have got to offer us.

Our guests this year have enjoyed a variety of experiences from the comfort of their barns. So far, our guests have enjoyed murder mystery evenings, casino nights, bouncy castles, cocktail masterclasses, life drawing and private dining experiences. In the future, you will see us build more relationships with local businesses to allow us to provide our guests with additional experiences to supplement their stay, making the overall Ashlin Farm Barns experience their most memorable. We are keen to create packages for you to enjoy whatever the celebration.

We are in the process of creating an access guide showcasing how friendly our barns are for all and will always be looking to improve the access facilities further.

We can’t quite believe how quickly this year has gone. It has been a great adventure so far and we look forward to many more years to come. We look forward to welcoming future guests through our doors.
