Eating out in local pubs:

You’re spoilt for choice locally and in Lincoln for amazing places to eat – it’s hard to know where to begin – but here’s a few suggestions to get you started.

The nearest local pub is the Black Bull in Welton, only 5 minutes drive, serving a good range of dishes and special menus on some weekday evenings. Or less than 10 minutes away, try the range of dishes at the Dambusters in Scampton, a pub well-known for its wartime connections.

Eating out in the Bailgate area near the Cathedral and Castle:

The Bailgate area around the Cathedral and Castle is buzzing and vibrant in the evenings with a great choice of places to eat.

Bailgate area – Looking for a traditional meal out?

Try The Reform restaurant in the Castle Hotel, where you can book a set evening menu for ten or more people or choose from the a la carte menu. The Wig and Mitre near the top of Steep Hill is a popular traditional English pub steeped in history serving delicious locally sourced food from Modern European to gastro pub. Gluten free choices are available. The Duke William is a lovely historic building with stylish interior serving tasty food using only local suppliers.

Bailgate area – Looking for tastes from around the world?

You’ll find many wonderful restaurants serving food from around the world, such as Newport Arch Chinese Restaurant serving good quality dishes tel: 01522 545006. Or for a delicious authentic Thai meal try Thailand No.1 where you will find a wide range of dishes to choose from. For freshly prepared Indian food try Saffron tel: 01522 548377 or for an authentic Spanish meal try Olivares Tapas Bar in the shadow of the cathedral. For a Mexican treat with nachos, tacos and much much more, head for family-owned Tequilas. For pizzas, pastas and risottos call in at Gino’s restaurant for the Italian experience.

Bailgate area – Looking for a very special evening out?

Try the historic Jews House Restaurant serving a mouth-watering menu in lovely surroundings where you can book a private dining room with a menu tailored to your needs. For that very special meal, experience the luxury of the Bronze Pig Restaurant situated next to the west gate of the castle for an evening out to remember featuring contemporary English cuisine with Italian influence. We definitely recommend both.

Eating out in the High Street area:

For something a bit different go to Wildwood for a film and a tasty meal – try their burgers, pizzas or risotto. For American style smokehouse classics of pulled pork, ribs and brisket call in to Huckleberry’s Bar and Grill on Clasketgate. If a quirky and playful 1930’s theme in delightful surroundings interests you, try the Cosy Club in the redeveloped Cornhill Quarter along the high street. Good food and cocktails served in “Mansion splendour” with village eccentricity.

Eating out in the Brayford Waterfront area:

The Brayford Waterfront area is lively, bustling and a great place to be. In summer sit outside at one of the many pavement cafes and enjoy the wonderful views across the waterfront, with boats and barges passing. Walk along the front and choose from the collection of well-known restaurants such as Wagamama, Handmade Burger Co., Prezzo or Nando’s for a lively evening out.

Eating out a bit further afield:

If you’re feeling like exploring our area The Five Bells at Bassingham is a charming, cosy country pub dating back to 18th Century and well worth a visit to sample their delicious a la carte and specials menu. Aubourn is a pretty village south of Lincoln where you will find The Royal Oak, a traditional 16th century inn with open fires and oak beams. There’s an extensive menu to choose from and real ales to quench your thirst.

If you are driving into the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, stop off at the little village of Tealby and eat at the picture postcard thatched pub, The King’s Head. Washingborough Hall Country House Hotel, a Georgian manor house, is a short drive from Lincoln and serves delicious food. Eat in the restaurant or the relaxed Lounge-Bar.
